How to export a WhatsApp chat (iPhone & Android)
Exporting a WhatsApp conversation takes under a minute and doesn't touch your account login. Here's exactly how, on both phones — and how to include voice notes.
On iPhone
- Open the chat you want to export.
- Tap the contact or group name at the top to open its info screen.
- Scroll down and tap Export Chat.
- Choose Attach Media to include photos and voice notes (or Without Media for text only).
- Pick where to save or send it — Save to Files, AirDrop, or email it to yourself.
On Android
- Open the chat you want to export.
- Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right.
- Tap More, then Export chat.
- Choose Attach Media to include voice notes, or Without media.
- Choose how to save or share the file (Drive, email, etc.).
What's in the export?
With media, you get a .zip containing a .txt of the whole conversation plus the photos and voice notes. Text-only gives you just the .txt. Either works — but if you want voice notes analyzed, choose Attach Media.
