Ghosting in text messages: the signs, and how to check
One day the replies just stop. No fight, no goodbye — only silence. Here's how ghosting shows up over text, and how to tell it apart from someone who's simply busy.
What ghosting is
Ghosting is ending contact without explanation — the conversation goes quiet and stays quiet, leaving you to guess. Over text it's rarely sudden; usually the energy thins out for a while first.
Signs of ghosting over text
No single message is proof. What matters is the pattern repeating over time:
- Replies slow from hours to days to nothing.
- Messages get shorter and one-sided right before the silence.
- Read receipts with no reply, repeatedly.
- They still appear active elsewhere but not with you.
- Your follow-ups go unanswered rather than declined.
"Hey, everything okay?" — left on read for nine days after weeks of daily conversation.
Is it really ghosting, or am I reading into it?
A quiet week during a hard stretch isn't ghosting. The tell is a full stop with no explanation, especially after a clear decline — and that it doesn't resolve when life settles down.
Don't decide from one screenshot. See whether the pattern actually repeats across your history.

Instead of re-reading anxiously, iNexus reads your whole exported conversation and answers plain questions with the real messages — the exact text, date, and sender, never paraphrased. It also transcribes voice notes, and its timeline shows when the behavior started. Exporting a WhatsApp chat takes a minute.
